More on Mr. Nicholas

The poor little guy has had a few issues in his first week of life. They discovered that his bilirubin levels were high the day after he left the hospital. Luckily, he didn't have to be admitted to the hospital. Kassie and Scott were able to have a special light therapy bed delivered to their house. Nick pretty much has to stay in it unless he's eating. His levels had gone down quite a bit today, so hopefully he'll be done with the bed soon!

He had also lost more than 10% of his body weight, so they had to syringe feed him breastmilk for a day. The next day they found out that he hadn't passed a blood test. I don't completely understand all of it, but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with him not being able to break down the breastmilk to get all of the nutrients from it. Right now, they are feeding him a special formula at all but two feedings (Kassie is able to breastfeed him then). Kassie, Scott, and Nick spent yesterday afternoon at Children's Mercy, having more tests run. We're all praying that he passes the test and can stop taking the formula.

Kassie and Scott have been at the doctor's office or the hospital every day since they were able to leave the hospital on Tuesday. I know they are both exhausted, but they are doing a great job as new parents! It does get easier, guys! Love you! <3
